A Tisket ... A Tasket

One of my summer to-do projects was to clean the dirt, grime, and grease off of the top of the kitchen cabinets which wouldn't be all that difficult if it wasn't for my prized cookie jar collection.
The one with the pretzel on top started it all, and I still find joy in finding handwritten notes from my grandmother tucked secretly inside. I've sadly decided, though, that I'm too old to spend every summer straddling the stove-top and counters to gingerly hand wash each one, so I've relocated a few of my favorites to the buffet...
and tucked the rest safely away in a cupboard for safe keeping until I can think of a better way to display them. Hope you're having a great summer!

You Just Never Know

Grant and I went for an early morning bike ride through the countryside today.

 We saw idyllic pastures
The usual twists and turns of the pavement...

and a snake alongside the roadway!!

Eww...made our morning a little more adventurous and memorable. And to think I was actually worried about
getting chased by dogs.

End in Sight

There is no better feeling than the last
day of school! I'm going to sit on the couch
and do nothing for awhile!

Goal Setting

Made it through a soccer season without any broken bones!!

Oh and kicked the soccer ball around the yard on
Mother's Day--nothing better!

Tabling It!

Yep, this little charming beauty is one of my all time favorite projects. This high-gloss, yellow, garage sale table was transformed with paint.
I remember walking into Hobby Lobby one day and seeing a similar piece of painted furniture with a hefty price tag and thought I can do that. I basically dry brushed on burnt umber, cream, and a patina green to tone down the glossy yellow. It even helped to hide the imperfections on the top.
Now it serves as a sofa table in the family room and I am extremely proud of it. Do you have something that turned out better than you could have possibly imagined? Don't you just love when that happens?

Rockin' with the Rhythm of the Rain...

Does anyone else have a bare-naked porch? I would love to fill mine with plant stands, coffee tables, pillows and accessories, but honestly Illinois weather won't cooperate. In the midst of a good old fashioned thunderstorm, anchoring down furniture or bringing cushions inside is not practical.
I do love the porch swing...
and the painted spindles...
and the meandering sidewalk out front...
But I think I'll just have to settle for
simplicity's sake.
